An estimated $ 141.6 million were generated during the national holidays celebration in Panama, according to records of the Department of Statistics of the Tourism Authority of Panama (ATP).
According to a press release from the ATP, during those days a total of 944,280 people traveled from the Albrook Bus Terminal and in private vehicles to the interior of the country, interested in enjoying tourist destinations such as: Boquete, El Valle, Rivera Pacifica, Pedasí, Santa Catalina, Isla Coiba, Chitré, Los Santos, Herrera, among others, while Isla Taboga was very crowded in the capital city.
Some 129,000 vehicles traveled to these destinations, 74% 5-passenger cars; 15% minibuses; and 6% 45-passenger buses, according to a report from the Transit and Land Transportation Authority (ATTT).
The average expenditure of a person per day, who undertakes these trips, oscillates around $ 50.00, which includes accommodation, food, transportation, visits to tourist sites and purchase of handicrafts or souvenirs.
The ATP Statistics Department report also reflected that during the celebration of the national holidays, hotels in the interior of the country had a hotel occupancy above 80%, which reactivated the economy, allowing an economic spillover throughout the tourism industry sector, after a difficult period as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
