Tourist Arrivals in Panama Surge by 8.7% in First Half of 2024

In the first half of 2024, Panama saw a notable 8.7% increase in foreign tourism, welcoming 1,443,424 visitors—an impressive 115,245 more than during the same period in 2023, according to data from the Panama Tourism Authority (ATP).

Tocumen International Airport received 1,029,528 visitors which is a substantial 15.8% rise compared to the 889,415 who arrived in the first six months of 2023.

Hotel occupancy rates also reflected this upward trend. Preliminary data from the first half of the year show an occupancy rate of around 51.8%, which indicates a steady demand for accommodations across the country.

Additionally, Panama’s tourism sector benefited from a 10.3% increase in foreign currency earnings, totaling $3,083.0 million from January to June 2024 (excluding international transportation). This marks a significant jump from the $2,795.6 million recorded during the same period in 2023.

According to the ATP, the continuous flow of visitors underscores the enduring appeal of Panama’s diverse tourist offerings, which range from stunning natural landscapes to a vibrant culture, and also the expanding infrastructure and services tailored for tourists.
